Why do I have to use the same battery type and brand? Why is a mix of old and new batteries harmful?
It is highly recommended that batteries of the same type, brand, size, and expiry date be used in the same appliance. The electrical capacity of various types or batches can vary. If such disparities in electrical capacity are used, the difference in electrical capacity will grow over time, potentially causing one of the batteries to overcharge, leak, or even explode.
Never mix old and new batteries, as this may result in leakage or worse. Even if the battery was only used briefly, the remaining electrical capacity is less than that of a new battery. When used in conjunction with one or more new batteries, this used battery will lose capacity and voltage faster than the new batteries, potentially resulting in an overcharge and leakage of that battery.
